You came to me in the night,
I felt your touch - that sweet frisson,
Your loving embrace,
The wish of you made real.
I should have known you could never be with me,
Never completely real,
No matter the moving shadows that skirt the moonlight,
Nor the night breezes that lift me soaring
And play with my long hair...
Your words in my ear,
Sweet seduction to haunt me,
Your Self buried deeply within…
But it fades away in the morning light,
Dew drops to mist and gone.
By daylight I can’t find you;
There’s nothing here but the empty air
And a taunting memory.
You were nothing but illusion
And I a romantic fool.
